Indoor Vegetable Gardening

When it comes to plants being grown indoor, houseplants and herb gardens are the common indoors plants that you will find.  But they are not the only plants that can be grown indoors.  By using the right containers and having the right environment, you can also have an indoor vegetable garden.  The benefits of having a vegetable garden in your home is having fresh vegetables to eat or for cooking all year round.

Tomatoes, carrots, and radishes are three of the easiest vegetable to grow indoors.  Each plant will grow differently and will need separate containers to grow in.  The plants should be placed on the side of the house where the most sunlight is available.  If you don't have the right exposure for the plants, you can invest in an artificial bulb to provide supplemental light.

When choosing the container to grow your vegetables, make sure there is enough drainage.  If the plants sit in too much water they will not survive.  Choosing containers that have holes at the bottom of them is the best choice for growing vegetables.  However, you will need to put a plate or something at the bottom of the container to catch and hold the water.  If you don't want to do this, another option is choosing container that don't have holes in the bottom of them, but you will need to put a layer of wood chips or gravel at the bottom of the container to allow the water to run out of the soil.

When choosing the types of vegetables to grow, follow the same guidelines as you would for outdoors.  On the packets of the seeds, it will give recommendations on when to plant, the amount of light it needs, and how much watering is required.

Growing vegetables indoors is fun and you will not have to worry about the weather outside.  If done correctly, in a few short months, you should be able to harvest vegetables grown inside your own home.
